What is a merchant account? A merchant account allows your business to process credit card transactions and other payment forms. Merchant accounts can be for retail merchants, internet merchants, mail/order telephone order merchants, and any merchant in between. You will need to have a merchant account to process credit and debit cards to accommodate your customers needs. It is very important you get set up with the right type of account to help minimize your processing cost. Buyer beware, some merchant processors and banks will set you up with the wrong type of account on purpose to increase their profits. Don’t allow this to happen to you. What if I have bad credit or no credit, can I still get a merchant account? No problem. We have one of the highest approval ratings in the industry and do what we can to help you obtain a merchant account. Plus, there is no charge and no obligation to request a FREE price quote.

What types of merchants does sun state merchant services approve? We approve all types of merchants that fit our underwriting guidelines. Retail merchants, internet merchants, high risk merchants, high volume merchants, new start up merchants, restaurant merchants, hotel merchants, wireless merchants and home office merchants are just a few we can approve. How do I decide which terminal, program, software or service is right for my business? Will I need to open a new bank account? No. You will need to provide us a with a business bank account where your funds will be credited and debited. You will not be able to run your merchant account through your personal bank account.

How soon will I get my money once I run a transaction? Within 48 hours and most of the time within 24 hours if you batch your terminal before 3 oclock CST. Some companies claim they can do this, but Sun State guarantees it! Visa, Mastercard, and Discover can be deposited within 24 hours with proper batching with Sun State. American Express settles their own transactions and can take up to 72 hours to be deposited, sometimes longer depending on your transaction. We process your American Express transactions for you, but American Express (separate from Visa, Mastercard, and Discover) will bank their own funds with you.

Why does Discover charge a higher fee than the others? They DON’T. Some merchant providers have been dishonest with their merchants leading them to believe this. Sun State has formed partnerships which allow your pricing for Discover, Visa, and Mastercard to all be the same.

Where do I get paper and supplies for my terminal? You can reorder paper and supplies through the Sunstate website. We will ship them directly to you. If you are a member of the Sun State Club, we will supply you with free paper. We will deliver you as much paper as you need and you won’t have to worry about going to a store to buy it.

Do you provide customer service? Yes. We pride ourselves on our customer service and we understand it’s very important that you know the people at the company you do business with. Each merchant is assigned a personal relationship manager should you ever have any questions or need help at any time. You can find our customer service and contact info here whenever you need help.

What if I already have equipment, can I use it and process with Sun State? In some cases with PCI Compliant Equipment, yes you can. If you have credit card equipment, it can be a simple process—that takes as little as 15 minutes—to reprogram your existing terminal. You can often take advantage of our low processing costs and fees without having to purchase new equipment. Sun State protects each and every merchants security by only supplying and processing with state of the art and secure equipment. We protect you by being PCI Compliant and will never compromise a merchant or its customers information by using out dated equipment.
